Artistry Retreat FAQ
Learn to Paint Photos at an Artistry Retreat!
This FAQ answers some of the common questions about the Artistry Retreats, where Corel Painter Master Karen Sperling teaches professional photographers and hobbyists the art lessons and software steps for turning portrait and landscape photos into paintings.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. Are the Artistry Retreats for professional photographers or for hobbyists?
A. They’re for both! Professional photographers learn art lessons and Painter steps for creating paintings from their photos that they sell to their clients. Hobbyists use the art concepts and software steps for painting photos of their kids, grandkids and travels.
Q. Do the Artistry Retreats cover portraits or landscapes?
A. Both!
Q. I’m a beginner, is that OK?
A. Yes, but it would be really helpful if you would read through the Artistry Beginners tutorials prior to the class so that you have a general idea about Painter. You don’t have to be proficient in it prior to the class, but at least get to know where the brushes are and an idea about Painter terms like cloning and Tracing Paper. The Artistry Retreat covers the art concepts and software techniques with hands-on instruction. You will bring a laptop to the class, and the only prerequisite is that you know how to use your computer, including how to open, close and save files and how to access files from a CD. And if you borrow a laptop for the class, make sure you know how to use it beforehand!

Q. I’ve taken classes/watched dvds/read books by you and/or by other teachers, and I’m fairly good at painting photos. Will I benefit by attending an Artistry Retreat?
A. It depends on what you’re interested in. If you haven’t touched Painter in awhile and would like a refresher, or if you’re stuck and can’t seem to get anywhere with Painter, then the Artistry Retreat will help you.

Q. I’m not an artist, but I’m interested in painting photos. Will the class help me?
A. If you think you can paint photos, you probably can. Learning how begins with having an interest in painting. The Artistry Retreats show you the art concepts you need to know to paint photos, like how to decide if a photo is a good candidate to be turned into a painting and how to choose colors.
No previous art experience is necessary.
If you have an interest in photography and images, then you will probably be able to paint photos after learning the art lessons and software steps offered in the Artistry Retreats.
